Almost 10

26-2-2014 baguetteWhat do you want to talk about?

Scott: It’s my birthday tomorrow… Yay!

Do you want to talk about that?

Scott: Well…

Or will that just get you excited?

Scott: I probably won’t be able to sleep anyway, to be honest.

What did we do on my birthday yesterday?

Scott: Went to karaoke and then went to the Vintage.

Was that fun?

Scott: Yeah.

Will yours be more fun?

Scott: I don’t know. To some people it might but to some people it might not, you know.

What are we doing tomorrow?

Scott: Em… Going to see the Lego Movie, and get to be 10.

And we’ll go for something to eat afterwards.

Scott: Yeah.

And then you’ll go out with your pals on Saturday – bowling and dinner.

Scott: Yep.

How do you feel about being 10 tomorrow?

Scott: Sort of excited.

Excited about your birthday, or excited about being 10?

Scott: Because it’s my birthday – they’re both the same thing.

Is being 10 significant?

Scott: Well, it’s the first, like, 10s number so it’s sort of special.

And what are you hoping to get for your birthday?

Scott: I’m hoping for a thing to record my X Box videos and a new X Box Live adaptor, some of the Lego Movie stuff and some more Lego Movie minifigures. You know, that sort of stuff.

We’ll see tomorrow…

Scott: You already know – but I don’t.

Santa might come tonight.

Scott: (laughs) That’s not going to happen.

No presents for you, then.

Scott: Jimmy!

  • When I asked Scott what this drawing has to do with his birthday, he replied: “It has nothing to do with my birthday and I’m proud of it – I’m a failure!”

Tom’s karaoke

29-1-2014 tom's karaokeWhat we blogging about?

Helen: Em… I don’t know… I know: Tom’s karaoke.

Scott: Great idea, Helen. (whispers) Terrible idea, Helen.

Helen: There’s a little boy I got called Tom and he’s got a karaoke centre. Two trolls came to his house. His parents are away and they said he could have two of his troll friends over to do karaoke and have dinner with trolls. So they sang some songs Scott played them on his iPod.

What songs did they sing?

Helen: Em… One of them was Crash The Wedding.

Scott: And What Does The Fox Say…

Helen: Move Your Feet…

But they know the words?

Scott: Yeah.

Helen: Yeah.

Scott: Well, I played it on my iPod so they don’t need to know the words.

Helen: They don’t need to know the words.

Will we do real karaoke again soon?

Helen: Yeah.

Scott: That would be cool.

Helen: That would be cool. I could do one of the songs I did there. We could bring our trolls and they could join in.

Scott: That would be weird…

Karaoke

15-12-2013 karaokeYesterday was Mummy’s birthday.

Scott:Yeah.

What did we do?

Scott: Em… Well, first we went for karaoke.

How was that?

Scott: That was great.

Did you really like it?

Scott: Yeah.

What was it like?

Scott: It was like… Well, it’s just like singing to your favourite songs.

In a room with friends.

Scott: Yeah – I guess.

What was the best thing about it?

Scott: I don’t know – it was just fun in general.

What did you like singing best?

Scott: Bassline Junkie.

Was it harder or easier than you thought?

Scott: Well, it was different really – just… It was about as hard or easy as I thought. When Helen was singing those baby songs I thought: “This is not my idea of karaoke.”

Will we do it again soon?

Scott: I don’t know – you tell me.

Would you like to?

Scott: Yeah.

Okay, we will.

Scott: Great.

Did you like the karaoke, Helen?

Helen: Yeah.

What was the best bit?

Helen: Hmm… Every single bit of it.

Did you like it more than you thought you would?

Helen: Yeah.

What did you like singing best?

Helen: I don’t know – they’re all great.

Will we do it again?

Helen: What?

Will we do it again?

Helen: Yeah.

How was Mummy’s singing?

Helen: Good.

How was mine?

Helen: Good.

Who was better?

Helen: I don’t know.

Were we both good?

Helen: Yeah.

Will we try and get Gran to sing next time?

Helen: By herself.

Yeah – and what will we get her to sing?

Helen: Baa Baa Black Sheep – that’s a baby song…
